President extends good wishes to Christian community


Kathmandu, Dec 24, President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav Saturday wished peace, prosperity and development of Nepalese people on the occasion of Christmas, a festival of Christian community.
President Yadav said that the Christian communities were for welfare, happiness and humanitarian work to promote the human welfare and wished them peace and prosperity.
He said that the Christian religion aimed to establish peace, reconciliation and world fraternity across the world and hoped that Christmas would help to promote unity among the people.
He said, "I am hoping that the Christmas will help to establish peace and prosperity of all people."
Meanwhile, Nepali Congress (NC) president Sushil Koirala also wished peace and prosperity of all Christian communities and all Nepalese people on the occasion of Christmas and New Year 2012.
Koirala said that the Nepalese people should be careful not to squander the opportunity to establish and protect the democratic system in the nation in 2012.
He said that the Christian communities were playing a big role to establish and promote a democratic system.
He urged community to play a major role to secure a democratic constitution and that was a historic task of Nepalese people too.
On the occasion, Vice President Parmananda Jha has expressed best wishes of great festival Christmas to all the Nepali Christians residing in and outside the country.
Through a greetings message, he wished that the festival would encourage all Nepalis to move ahead on the path of cooperation and collaboration in the making of new constitution.
Likewise, Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has expressed best wishes to all the Christian followers in and outside the country on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Jesus Christ, the source of faith and inspiration to the entire Christian community.
The Prime minister expressed hope that the festival will promote brotherhood and good will and religious harmony in the country.
Likewise, President of the Nepali Congress, Sushil Koirala also expressed wishes to all Christian community people in Nepal and in the world on the occasion of Christmas and New Year-2012.
Currently, there are around 2 to 3 million Christian followers with 2,500 churches in Nepal.
The Nepal government has given public holiday on the Christmas Day.
