Third gender for equal rights



Itahari, Dec. 26
People of third gender have complained that the State is discriminating them to use the rights with due respect despite the Supreme Court (SC) guaranteed equal rights to them.
Speaking at an interaction organised in Itahari, they accused the state of violating the verdict of the SC by not providing rights and opportunities to the people of sexual minorities.
On the occasion, they demanded implementation of the verdict of the SC to provide equal rights and opportunities.
Speaking on the occasion, the people of third gender said they were abused and were facing hardships in the society as well.
Meanwhile, stakeholders concerned have emphasised on immediate government initiative for giving justice to the family of Manbir Sunar, who was murdered on the charge of touching the kitchen of upper caste in Kalikot.
At a press meet organised by the LANCOU Nepal, right activist Charan Prasain demanded with the prime minister immediate justice by investigating immediately.
Another advocate Dinesh Tripathy said the persons involved have been in political protection and the family should be compensated and he be decred a martyr.
Advocate Baburam Giri said the government should take stern action on the involved to lessen the violence in the name of untouchability.
Organising body Executive Director Prabhakar Bagchand, Dalit NGO Federation Vice Chairman Sebalram, Dalit Women Association Chairman Durga Sob also called for state attention on violence on Dalits.
